Hi everyone
I hope everyone’s having a good day. We are in the month of February. Most people when they think about the month of February they think about Valentine’s Day. For me it’s different I think about black history month. And this year I want to highlight a lot of people that I did not learn about until I got in my late 20s and early 20s. So today I’m gonna be talking about black inventors. The reason why I wanted to talk about black inventors most of these people that I’ve researched I never knew about them in school.
So I’m going to talk about three black inventors that I think everybody should know about.
So I researched all of these people and I pick these three because either a lot of people don’t know about them or they will be shocked what they invent.

The first black inventor I’m going to be talking about is a black woman. Her name is Dr. Shirley Jackson she is an American physicist. She got her Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of technology in 1973, she was the first African-American woman to get a doctorate in nuclear physicist at MIT. When I was reading about Dr. Shirley Jackson she had inventions under her belt that I didn’t even know about.
These are some of the inventions that she has. And that is a touchtone telephone, portable fax, caller ID, call waiting, and fiber optic cable. The more I read about Dr. Shirley Jackson I was amazed that she invented these things a black woman. That’s why no one cannot tell me a woman cannot do anything. Especially a black woman could do anything she wants if they put their mind to it. I was very amazed by Dr. Shirley Jackson. Dr. Shirley Jackson in 1995 Bill Clinton appointed her to serve as chairman of the US nuclear regulatory commission. She was the first woman and the first African woman to hold that position. The more I read about her the more I am shocked by her she’s done a lot with her life.

The next person that I’m going to be talking about is Lonnie Johnson. Lonnie Johnson was an Aerospace engineer For NASA. Do you have a wonder who created the super soaker he did? When I was reading about him I was amazed that he created the super soaker. So basically he created one of my favorite childhood water guns. Here’s another person that I was shocked by when I was reading more about Lonnie Johnson. One thing you going to notice when I talk about a lot of these people I am in shock with most of what they’ve done with their lives. Lonnie Johnson is also in the national toy Hall of Fame.

The last person I’m going to be talking about it’s a person that I’ve never heard of until today. And that person is Samuel R Scottron he is from Brooklyn New York. He was born in Philadelphia in 1841, was a barber in New York City. When I was researching he said that he was an inventor and then I read more and more about him and I found out what he actually invented and it shocked me. He invented the curtain rod.
And when I found that out I was like what you’re telling me the thing that I have above my shower he invented that, I was so shocked. This is why I tell a lot of people especially kids and teenagers that you need to research stuff on your own. Because I wasn’t taught about these three inventors at all. So that’s why I wanted to talk about them because I was never taught about them. So I hope this was very informative to you guys. Because today I found out a lot.
